HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR TREATMENT

How to prepare for your massage

Soft tissue therapy/pregnancy Massage/Lymphatic Drainage

If you have never had a massage treatment before, here are a few pointers on what to expect and how to prepare.

  • I will talk everything through with you in person and discuss what exactly will happen in your massage, depending on your needs and comfort. Nothing will go ahead without your consent

  • Massage oil may be used on the skin during the massage. Fragrance free, vegan and nut free

  • Please ensure you have enough space available for setting up a massage table and for me to move around it - 1.5m x 2.5m is roughly the minimum amount of space

  • You may wish to light a candle or play some music of your choice to create a more relaxed atmosphere

  • You may wish to heat the room a little warmer than usual as it is common for the body to feel cooler during treatment

  • Please provide 2 large and 1 small towel. Towels will be used to cover you whilst the massage is being performed so minimal underwear is best but please wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. If having a pregnancy massage, some additional cushions or towels that can be rolled up may be useful to aid with comfort

  • Underwear may be adjusted slightly during the massage, with your permission, to access certain muscles

  • Please remove all jewellery

  • Try to avoid eating anything for at least 30 minutes before your massage

  • Your treatment should not be painful but some techniques can be mildly uncomfortable, particularly if we are working on areas that are already experiencing some discomfort. Comfort levels will continually be checked throughout your treatment

  • Some medical information will be required from you before any treatment. If you have any injuries and illnesses please me know

  • GP approval may be required if you are currently taking any medication or have an illness such as diabetes or epilepsy. Please talk with your GP before your appointment if you are unsure as you will be asked to sign to give permission for the massage to go ahead

  • The massage will not be performed for any of the following reasons

        1. you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol

        2. You are suffering from an infectious illness such as a cold or flu, even if minor

        3. You have a fever, persistent cough or loss of taste or smell

        4. You have an infectious skin disease

        5. You have recently had an operation

If you require any further information or would like to ask any questions before booking, please get in touch.

On-site chair massage

Most of the same rules as above apply to On-site Chair Massage, however this type of massage does not use oil and is performed on top of clothing. This is NOT a full body massage and focusses on shoulders, back, arms and head only.
